Five Cards Stud

Five cards stud is the poker game from which the popular seven card stud poker was developed. Five card was very popular during the American civil word, but got less popular those days. It is still popular in some parts of the world though.

Both Five cards stud online poker and seven cards stud online poker games are quite similar, only in five cards stud a player has to make a five cards hand out of five cards, thus he has no options to choose from like in seven cards stud where players can choose their best five cards hand out of seven cards.

In a Five cards stud online poker room, the basic game structure is each online poker player gets one down facing cards and 4 up facing cards followed by four betting rounds and a showdown. The betting rounds start with the player with the best card, that's way it might start with a different player each time.

Dealing and forced bets in a Five cards stud online poker room

In a Five cards stud online poker room, before cards are dealt, players have to ante, i.e. pay a small bet to the pot. Than each player are dealt one card facing down and one card facing up.

First betting round in a Five cards stud online poker room

The first betting round starts with a bring in made by the online poker player with the highest up card and moves clockwise. The players can chose between calling the bring in, raising to the lower limit (completing the betting) or folding. A betting round is limited to three re-raises. After the betting round is completed, another up facing card is dealt.

The second betting round in a five cards stud game starts with the player having the best hand made out of his up cards. After the betting round one more faced up cards is dealt.

Next there is a similar third betting round, than the final card is dealt facing up.

Finally the final betting round takes place, followed by a showdown if more than one player remains in the game. Many times, five cards stud games ends without a showdown after one player bets and no one calls.
